Impact Projects
The SOAS Impact Acceleration Account funds impact projects that turns research into real-world change. Through Strategic and Rapid Response Grants, we support researchers across the humanities and social sciences to build partnerships with communities, practitioners and policymakers, and to co-produce tangible benefits beyond academia. As a dedicated vehicle for amplifying impact, the programme actively shapes and contributes to the creation of research impact at SOAS, strengthening relationships with non-academic partners, building capacity through training, and generating further opportunities such as placements and knowledge exchange. Together, these projects show how modest, targeted funding can extend the reach of SOAS research on the issues that matter most.
IAA Strategic Grants
Strategic grants provide substantive funding of up to £10,000 for researchers to develop and deliver ambitious, well-planned impact activities that build on established research. Supporting sustained partnerships with communities, practitioners and policymakers, alongside public engagement, knowledge exchange and capacity building, they enable SOAS researchers to translate their work into lasting real-world benefit, strengthening the pathways through which research shapes impact at SOAS.

IAA Rapid Response Grants

Rapid Response grants provide agile, short-term funding, up to £5000, for researchers to act on emerging or urgent issues as they unfold. Designed for speed rather than new research, they help translate existing expertise into timely impact, supporting quick-turnaround activities with community, practitioner or policy partners. With a compact six-month timeline, these grants enable SOAS researchers to respond to real-world developments at the moment they matter most.
